Fresh security advisory issued in Kashmir ahead of PM Modi’s 2-day visit

Srinagar, May 18

Even though the security forces are already on high alert in Kashmir, including summer capital, Srinagar, due to increase in militant activities, a fresh advisory has been issued to field commanders to keep a strict vigil to foil any attack during the two-day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state from Saturday. Meanwhile, Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) K K Sharma told reports in Jammu on Wednesday that five infiltrators sneaked into Hiranagar sector probably through a tunnel on Sunday night and efforts are on to detect and neutralise them. Security forces have been deployed in strength in sensitive areas in the valley to maintain law and order and to prevent any militant attack.

Riot place have also been deployed to prevent any demonstration by separatists on Saturday, when they had called for “ Lal Chowk” challo against PM visit. PM Modi is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir for two days from Saturday to lay foundation stone of Rs 939.41 crore semi-ring road project in Srinagar and inaugurate 330-MW Kishanganga hydroelectric project in north Kashmir district of Bandipora.

Later, Mr Modi is expected to fly to Leh, to participate in the 100th anniversary celebrations of Ladakhi spiritual leader Kushak Bakula.  During his visit to Jammu, PM Modi will inaugurate Tarakote Marg from Katra to Adhkuwari, material ropeway from Siar Dabri to Bhawan at Vaishno Devi shrine. He will lay foundation stone of 1000 MW Pakal Dul HE Project and Jammu ring road from General Zorawar Singh Auditorium at the University of Jammu. The PM is also scheduled to address the sixth convocation ceremony of the S K University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu.

However, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, have urged people to march towards Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital on Saturday to register peaceful protest against PM Modi's visit to the state. A BSF jawan and a couple were killed and eight civilians injured as Pakistan shelled heavily in Jammu and Samba districts early morning on Friday. A BSF Jawan was martyred in the firing by Pakistan's Rangers in Samba sector on Monday night foiling an infiltration bid by terrorists from across the border while a BSF Jawan and two civilians were injured in Pakistan's shelling in Samba and Hiranagar sectors in Jammu on Thursday.
